كيف تتجنب الطيات عند وضع ورق الحائط؟

The laying of the wallpaper is one of the most important parts of the installation process. Once the wallpaper has been cut to the correct size, the pattern, if there is one, must be fitted and it must be ensured that it is completely smooth, without bubbles or creases. If, despite this, irregularities appear, there are also ways to make them disappear.

Folds in the wallpaper distort the effect we want to achieve with this interior design element. They can cause shadows in the lighting and do not allow you to enjoy the chosen pattern or colour. For this reason, they should be avoided at all costs during installation.

All factors that can cause creases to appear in wallpaper

As always, it is very important that the wall is always well prepared. There should be no irregularities that could cause the dreaded creases to appear. This is why it is preferable to prepare the wall beforehand.

If you are going to install over old wallpaper, try to remove as far as possible all the parts that are clear and in poor condition. It is preferable to remove it completely as it can react with the glue and widen, causing irregularities.

Another thing to consider is the type of wallpaper you are going to install. Thinner wallpapers are more likely to create creases than thicker ones. Also, if they are TNT textile-based wallpapers where only the glue needs to be applied to the wall, the process is much easier.

It is important to know the characteristics of the paper you are going to install in order to know how it will behave once it is installed. Once it has been placed on the wall, it should be spread carefully without stretching it too much. Then it should be pressed towards the edges and ends so that it is completely smooth. Always from top to bottom and from left to right.

We advise you to do this operation calmly and with enough time. The installation of wallpaper requires precision and the right tools. Applying the glue correctly is also important to avoid creases. If too much glue is applied, it is quite likely that creases will appear.

¿What to do if creases appear?

If the wall is prepared and the paper is thick enough, there should not be many creases. If they do appear, it is important to act before the glue dries, because after that it will be impossible to make them disappear. Once the strip is in place, you should check the walls for any irregularities.

If a small crease appears, using a small rubber roller should be enough to make it disappear. Gently and without pressing too hard, you can go over the area with this tool in order to remove the crease. In many cases these are mini bubbles with elongated shapes and the air will have to be dragged to the edge of the paper.

The real problem arises when a large crease appears that practically occupies the entire size of the paper. In these cases, the roller will not be sufficient and the paper will have to be carefully peeled off again to put it back in the right way. This operation should be carried out without haste, as tears may occur during handling.

If there are too many creases in the paper, the best strategy is to remove it completely and apply a new strip. If this happens with case wallpaper it can make installation very difficult as it is almost like putting together a puzzle with one piece removed. Even so, it is important to be aware of this remote possibility.

Remember that putting up wallpaper is not a particularly difficult operation but it will require your full attention and care. Detecting creases during the installation process will be essential to achieve the right results.
