01

Choosing wallpaper

Materials and features, without assuming that all models are the same.

What is the difference between non-woven and vinyl?

Non-woven (TNT) wallpaper has a backing made of interwoven cellulose and textile fibers. Non-woven finishes without a vinyl layer are breathable and can be cleaned, although their washability is generally lower than that of vinyl.

ALF&mabi vinyl wallpaper has that same non-woven backing with a vinyl surface layer. Depending on the model, the washability can be super washable or extra washable. This layer provides water resistance and makes cleaning easier, but it does not make the wall waterproof.

The finish, texture, weight, and washability depend on the model. Consult its data sheet and label to choose the one that best suits your space.

Are the wallpapers self-adhesive?

No. ALF&mabi wallpapers are not self-adhesive. They require suitable glue applied to the wall.

Can I use wallpaper in a bathroom or kitchen?

Yes, both vinyl and non-woven wallpapers can be installed in bathrooms and kitchens. Always avoid direct or continuous contact with water and heat. The room must be well-ventilated, and the surface must be dry and absorbent.

Vinyl wallpapers offer greater resistance to water and cleaning. Non-woven wallpapers without a vinyl layer are more breathable, though less washable. Neither solves excessive humidity or insufficient ventilation: correct those conditions before wallpapering.

Consult the model's specifications, and if you have questions about a specific area, send us a photo before purchasing.

Do all wallpapers have the same thickness and texture?

No. The surface, weight, and texture may vary between collections. Some finishes are smooth and others have relief or a textile effect.

The product data sheet and a sample will help you evaluate the finish before deciding.

Will the color be exactly as I see it on the screen?

Not necessarily. The screen may modify the original tones. Additionally, light and the colors surrounding the wallpaper can change how you perceive the tone. For a more secure choice, order a sample and observe it in the room where you are going to install it.

Look at it in natural light and with the lighting you will use at night.

Can it be used in children's rooms?

Yes, both vinyl and non-woven wallpapers can be used in children's rooms. The choice depends on your needs and the finish you prefer.

If you are looking for easy cleaning, choose a model with higher washability. If you prefer a breathable finish, consider a non-woven model without a vinyl layer. Consult the model's data sheet to compare its features.

Is the wallpaper fireproof?

The vast majority of our wallpapers have a reaction-to-fire classification of B-s1,d0. Always check your model's classification on its label or Declaration of Performance.

This classification indicates a very limited contribution to fire, low smoke production, and the absence of flaming droplets or particles during the corresponding test.

It does not mean that it is a non-combustible material: it indicates that it has passed the corresponding tests and meets that European classification. If your project requires technical documentation, write to us indicating the reference and the intended use.

Is the vinyl wallpaper shiny?

No. Even though they have a vinyl surface layer, our wallpaper finishes are matte and do not shine.

02

Samples and colors

Seeing the wallpaper at home helps you decide on the color and finish.

How do I order a sample?

Add the samples of the models you want to compare to your cart from our samples section.

Check the availability and price of each reference before completing your purchase.

What size are they and how much do they cost?

Published information indicates an approximate size of 50 cm or a complete pattern repeat and a standard price of €5 per model, plus shipping.

Check the data sheet of your chosen sample in case it has a different format or condition.

How long do samples take to ship?

The published preparation time is 1–5 business days. You must then add shipping to your destination.

If you need them by a specific date, consult us before purchasing.

I can't find the sample for the model I want

It may be sold out or unavailable for that design. Write to us with the name and color of the model to check.

The availability of a sample and a full roll do not always coincide.

Will the sample and the roll be from the same batch?

A sample helps you evaluate the color and finish, but it does not guarantee the batch of a later purchase. Differences can exist between dye lots.

If you need to verify a specific batch, contact us before purchasing.

03

Measurements, rolls, and pattern

Calculate the material and understand how the design continues.

How many rolls do I need?

Enter the width and height of the wall into the calculator on the wallpaper's product page. Check that you are using the correct model and variant you intend to purchase.

If you have several walls, large openings, slanted ceilings, or a special layout, consult us before finalizing your order.

Do I have to deduct doors and windows?

Do not automatically subtract their surfaces: cuts and the continuity of the pattern may require material that cannot be recovered from other sections.

For a wall with many openings, send us the measurements and a sketch so we can review the layout.

What is the difference between pattern match and repeat?

The repeat is the distance at which the pattern repeats. The match indicates how to align one strip with the next.

The label will tell you if the model is installed with no match, straight match, or offset match. See the examples in our guide.

Why don't all the squares of the Gingham match?

The motifs may look the same and occupy different positions within the complete repeat. You must respect the repeat of your model, for example, 53 cm when indicated by the label.

If the pattern still does not align along the entire height, stop and send us photographs before using more wallpaper.

Does "no match" mean I can reverse the strips?

Not necessarily. "No match" indicates that you do not need to adjust the height to match the pattern. The installation direction is a different instruction.

Only reverse every other strip if the label on your model indicates it.

How much does each roll measure?

In general, our rolls measure 53 cm wide × 10 m long. Some models are 50 cm wide × 10 m long. Always check the width and length on your product's data sheet.

Can I order another roll later?

Yes, but we cannot guarantee that a subsequent purchase will belong to the same batch. Send us a photo of the label beforehand to check if that dye lot is still available.

For the same wall, purchase the total amount needed in a single order.

Where can I find the batch or dye lot?

On the roll's label. Keep the full code and, if you consult us, send us a photograph where the reference and dye lot are visible.

Before installing, check that the rolls destined for the same wall are from the same batch.

04

Preparation and installation

The short answer here; step-by-step instructions are in the guide.

Can I install it myself or do I need a professional?

Difficulty depends on the wall, the pattern, and meeting corners, doors, or windows. If you have little experience or the surface needs preparation, an installer can help you.

Before starting, read the installation guide and your product's instructions.

Does the wall have to be painted or primed?

Not routinely. It must be dry, clean, smooth, firm, and have adequate absorption. Preparation depends on the surface and the products already applied to it.

Consult the preparation section of the guide before adding paint or primer.

What if I have washable paint or enamel?

Washable paints or enamels can leave a surface with low absorption. This can reduce glue absorption, make it difficult to dry, and favor the appearance of stains after installation, especially with vinyl wallpapers, whose surface layer also limits the passage of moisture.

The surface must be able to absorb the glue. Check its condition before wallpapering: it may need sanding, stripping of layers, or a compatible preparation system. If you do not know the finish, consult us before proceeding.

Can I install it over stippled walls (gotelé)?

For conventional installation, the wall must be smooth. The relief may show through and impair adhesion.

If you use a specific coating to cover stippled walls, follow the instructions for that system; it does not automatically replace all surface preparation.

What about tiles, drywall, or old wallpaper?

Each surface needs different preparation. Do not wallpaper directly over loose layers or old wallpaper.

For tiles, you have to deal with the joints and low absorption; for drywall, the differences between filler and panel. A professional should choose a compatible system when necessary.

What glue do I need? Is it included?

Glue is purchased separately. Use an adhesive compatible with the surface, weight, and finish of the wallpaper.

ALF&mabi glue is designed for our non-woven wallpapers and vinyls with a non-woven base. Follow the packaging and product data sheet.

How do I prepare ALF&mabi glue?

The dosage published for our papers is a 200g sachet with 5 liters of cold water. Stir and respect the indicated rest times before using.

The approximate yield is 35 m². The amount needed depends on the actual surface area; avoid adding extra water to stretch the mixture.

Do I glue the wall or the paper?

For wallpapers compatible with a non-woven backing, the wall is glued and the strip is applied dry. Work one strip at a time so the adhesive does not dry before you place it.

Check the label in case your product uses a different system.

What should I check before opening or cutting?

Model, color, quantity, dye lot, and roll condition. Then, check the pattern match and installation direction.

Do not cut all the strips before verifying the first join. If you detect a problem, stop and keep the labels.

05

Cleaning and removal

Follow your model's specifications, even after installation.

How do I clean wallpaper?

Check the washability symbols on your label. Clean gently and avoid abrasives; not all finishes can withstand soap or scrubbing.

If you have a specific stain, ask before applying products that could damage the surface.

How do I remove glue residues?

Remove them while wet with a soft, clean cloth or sponge, following the wallpaper's instructions. Do not scrub hard or soak the surface.

Dried residues can leave marks. If they have already dried, consult us before using a cleaning product.

Can it change color or yellow over time?

It is not advisable to promise that no wallpaper will change over time. Light resistance depends on the product, and the environment and installation residues can influence its appearance.

If you notice an unexpected change, send us photos, the approximate installation date, and the model so we can review it.

Will the wall be damaged when I remove it?

It depends on the wallpaper removal system, the adhesive, and the state of the paint or wall. It may be necessary to repair or paint afterward.

Follow the removal symbol on the roll. Do not dampen all wallpapers as a routine: some allow for complete dry removal.

06

If something goes wrong

Stop and keep the information before using more material.

Stains have appeared after installation

Do not use any more rolls. Take general and detailed photos and keep the label and a sample of the affected material.

Let us know the wall preparation and the glue used. Stains can have different causes; we will review the case before recommending a treatment.

The wallpaper is lifting, bubbling, or peeling off

Stop the installation and contact us. Do not add more glue or apply treatments over it without checking the cause.

Send us photographs and details of the substrate, its preparation, and the adhesive. Keep the labels and the affected material.

I see shade differences between the rolls

Check the batch numbers and the hanging direction indicated on the label. Do not install any more material until it is clarified.

Send us a photo of the labels and the whole set to assess the differences. Light can also influence how the finish is perceived.
